How long does it take to buy a home?

About 90-120 days, start to finish. Most people find a home within a month of serious searching. Once under contract, it takes 30-60 days to secure financing and close.

Do I need a 20% downpayment to buy a home?

No, about half of Center Coast Realty’s buyers put down less than 20%. It’s very common for buyers to secure financing for 5-10% down.

How can I figure out what homes I can afford?

What should my first step be?

Talk to a lender. Getting pre-approved for a mortgage will save time at closing and show sellers that you are a serious buyer when you make an offer. I can give you a lender referral.

How close to list price do homes usually sell for?

In many Chicago neighborhoods, sale prices are typically within 2-3% of the asking price. But if a home has been on the market for a while, you may find a seller more willing to negotiate.

Should I buy or keep renting?
